Pirate Evasion (All Ages)
Tell kids to imagine they’re a ship captain who must navigate a vessel through pirate-infested waters, or a town on the shore worried about a pirate invasion. What would they do to shore up their defenses so that they might successfully repel or evade a group of nasty pirates?
With younger kids, pose this question as a group-time discussion and get their ideas. With students in grades 2 and up, have each child come up with their own pirate defense plan based on protecting either (A) A merchant ship, or (B) A seaside town. Have them write a report describing these defenses and how they could be used to ward off pirates, including pictures or diagrams of any anti-pirate devices.C
