Mastering phonics is a fundamental part of literacy. In fact, recent studies have suggested that teachers aren’t placing enough emphasis on phonics, and that this is holding kids behind in reading, leading to literacy problems when they reach the middle grades of elementary school.

The term phonics, of course, simply refers to the sounds associated with each letter (or grouping of letters). Our letter of the alphabet pages already include guidelines and activities to teach kids phonics for that particular letter. This area focuses more on unique phonetic blends (ch, th, sh, etc.), as well as the general task of helping kids match letters to sounds (and vice versa), so that they have a basic understanding of word structure.
