Tips for Getting Kids to Take Their Medicine

If you struggle to get your child to take their medicine, here are some little tricks that might help you out:

  • Ask her to choose what color of medicine she wants to take, then add a drop of food coloring into dye-free liquid medicine so that it matches her choice.
  • Refer to it in a creative way (just not as candy), calling it “magic medicine juice” or “super hero healing potion.”  You can say something like “magic juice may not taste the best, but it helps keep us healthy.”  This acknowledges the bad taste while still making it more appealing to take.

A Tip for Organizing Medicine

If your children take several medications, use large infant formula containers to separate the child’s medication bottles and keep them organized.  It will make it easier to keep track of whose medicine is whose without having to sort throughdozens of containers.
