“It’s Snowing Chocolate!”
This probably sounds like something that would only happen in the movies, right? Or maybe an especially sweet dream. Except there once was a time when this actually happened in real life. I kid you not.
In 2020, residents in the town of Olten, Switzerland, woke up to find their world covered in a dusting of chocolate snow. How, you might wonder? It seems there was a problem with the cooling ventilation at a nearby chocolate factory. This led to a malfunction that sent clouds of fine cocoa dust up into the atmosphere. This cloud of chocolate dust then merged with precipitation and fell back to earth as chocolate snow.
Cars, roads, lawns, trees–everything in the town was covered in a hefty coating of the tasty stuff. People had to shovel chocolate off their sidewalks and plow it from the roads. “My dream come true!” one resident said. My thoughts exactly.
Which got me thinking back to my childhood, and all the times I wished it might rain candy. So here’s a fun question: If you could step outside in the morning and find the world covered in something delicious, what might it be? What freaky chain of events might actually cause this to happen?
