Bean Bag Shape Toss (Large motor)
Preschool to Kindergarten
Use masking tape to create different shape outlines on the floor in an open area of your classroom. Provide the kids with bean bags, and make a line on the floor for them to throw from. Have the kids stand at that line, call out a shape, and then try to toss their beanbag on that shape.

Note: If you do not have bean bags, fill old socks with gravel and tie the ends closed.

Shapes File Folder Game (Cognitive)
Preschool to Kindergarten
Draw pictures of shapes onto the cover of manila file folders, each shape on it’s own folder. Next search through magazines and clip different pictures that have a particular shape that stands out within the picture. Place the pictures out at the table with the labeled file folders. Children play the game by studying the picture and placing it inside the correct file folder, according to the shape they see in that picture

Human Formations (Large motor)
Preschool to Grade 1
Lay a large bed sheet or piece of cloth across the floor in an open area of your classroom. Have the kids take off their shoes, lay down on the cloth, and lay next to each other while holding their hands or feet to make different shape formations with their bodies.

Table Tetris (Cognitive)
Pre-K to Kindergarten
Cut out a variety of large shapes from colored butcher paper or construction paper. Set them out in a tub next to one of your classroom tables. Have the kids assemble the shapes so that they cover the entire table without any space showing, puzzling the shapes together like the game of Tetris.
